Dave Won: The First Sale You Will Ever Make Is To Yourself

I had the chance to sit down with Dave Won, a Certified Money Coach, who works with high-performing sales teams, and what he shared stopped me in my tracks. Dave doesn't teach tactics or closing techniques. Instead, he helps sellers understand the invisible money beliefs driving their everyday decisions. His work lives at the intersection of disciplined sales execution and the often-hidden world of our personal mindset around money.
Here's what hit me hardest: Dave said that more than 90% of salespeople struggle with being emotionally attached to outcomes. They discount before clients even ask. They push cheaper solutions instead of premium ones. They dodge budget conversations or hold onto deals they should let die because they're secretly afraid of where the next one might come from.
Sound familiar?
But here's the game-changer—it's not about lack of training or a bad territory or tough market conditions. There's something else going on behind the scenes. Dave challenged me to think differently: What's the emotion behind the behavior? What's the mindset driving why salespeople do what they do?

Dave shared his own journey—growing up with immigrant parents who struggled financially, thinking budgeting and tracking every dollar was the answer. It took panic attacks and a six-year journey to realize that understanding the emotional drivers behind his money behaviors was the real breakthrough.
That's when it clicked for me. You can't change your behaviors until you understand the why behind the what.
Dave's message is simple but profound: Sales is service, not coercion or manipulation.
